We had another successful craft day yesterday! It was the perfect day for being inside - it was dark and cold and chilly outside, hence the poorly lit picture. My original plan was to make this book for Father's Day, but when I saw this simpler version on Makes and Takes, I thought it would fit our young audience a little better. I cut out most of the pictures for the collage for Ryan and Peter glued them on, but when I asked him to write, "Dad" on it, he didn't want to. He said he would write "Mom," but in the end, we just left it blank. This was a fun little craft that would fit a lot of age groups - it would be perfect to pair older kids with younger kids to help choose and cut out pictures and then let the younger child glue them.
The weather here has been downright un-summery still. We have been getting occasional days of sunshine, but still lots of rain and cold. We didn't even make it to 60 yesterday. Often I just think that it's going to be winter again before I know it and I really wish it would warm up, but I have been trying to see the bright side of this wintry weather (I suppose it's really spring weather for here, but yesterday reminded me of a winter day from when we lived in California). So, when our power bill came two days ago, I thought of all the money we were saving by not having to cool our home. And when we went to a sparsely attended story time at the zoo (they have an animal based story time at our zoo during the summer), I thought of how much more crowded it would have been had the weather been nice. It's also incredibly green right now, thanks to all that rain. And it's supposed to warm up this weekend - I hope it decides to stay. If it doesn't, I'll have to think of some more things that I like about it still being cold in June instead of just being completely grumpy because I'm tired of wearing the one hoodie that I didn't put away with my winter clothes!
