These are actually my finds from last Saturday, but it's taken me this long to get pictures taken and get ready to post this, so hence we have Thrifty Thursday - even though most of you will read this on Friday. Most of these finds are from an estate sale I went to on Saturday. I overheard that I was sifting through the fabrics of a former junior high Home Economics teacher - she had a huge stash! Most of it was polyester double knits from the 70s, but I did find a few gems.
My favorite find was a group of a half a dozen or so embroidered pillowcases that had been taped together and priced at $3. And most of the embroidery is in great shape. I think I might finally have enough to make a banner, like Sarah's. I could only find a picture of hers here, but I know she blogged about it at some point. (EDIT: Sarah kindly sent the link to the bunting post - find it here.)
Another interesting find was that bodice of an unfinished dress on the bottom right corner - I saw it in the fabric stash and knew I had to have the fabric. I was surprised to find it was actually a dress bodice and then I found the skirt. And it fits, sort of - it's a little big - so now I have to decide if I should finished the dress or use it as fabric as I had intended before I knew it was a dress. What do you think? I'm not sure I would wear it, but I also don't know how I feel about cutting it up.
Let's see, what else? That top middle picture of the red print on linen - it was in the 10 cents pile outside the thrift store! I love it! I would have loved to use it as a table square - I think that's what it's intended use was, but it's stained in a few spots and torn quite badly on one edge, so I think it needs to be a purse or tote of some sort, but I will probably hang on to it for a while before I dare cut it.
And a box of patterns - probably 200 or so! I can't resist them - they are definitely by biggest thrift store weakness. I don't even sew that much clothing. But I love looking at them and studying the fashions. I love the way they feel and smell. I love having them and because our place is small, they do eventually end up here, but in the mean time I love that they are mine.
Happy 4th of July tomorrow!
What beautiful finds!

(I just googled mama jack embroidered bunting, and it turned it up.)
I really need to get a google search widget on my blog to make it easier to search, but I need to upgrade to do it! Argh.

The pillowcases would be my favorite find as well. My grandmother made many for us and now I'm so glad she did since she can't see so well anymore.
